Background

Barbados – Filling in Some Gaps

The BMMA has not yet been designated, but Bf has assisted with the writing of the Cabinet paper, stakeholder consultations with a focus on participatory management, a CPUE programme for Fishers and public awareness about the designation. As we wait for the Government of Barbados to make a move, we´ve held workshops on a newly developed method called MERCICOR for calculating compensation for coral reefs within an EIA framework and have just started to work on a Payment for Ecosystem Services (PES) for the service of Scenic Beauty. Each project we work on in Barbados, will assist the BMMA management, when it comes into being.
