The Biodiversity Finance Initiative (BIOFIN) produced this document in order to provide guidance on accessing private capital for biodiversity conservation. While private investment in biodiversity has increased, there is still great potential for scaling up and many of the challenges conservation practitioners experience in “unlocking” capital can be managed via private and public collaborations (co management).
BIOFIN is a UNDP managed, global collaborative partnership established to assist investors and entrepreneurs in finding creative private sector finance solutions for conserving biodiversity. The organisation brings together 35 countries, which allows for far ranging perspectives for biodiversity finance and a large number of opportunities for both public and private investments in nature.
The Blue finance model has been identified as a potential strategy for co-management and financing of protected areas (p55).
